Elementary School
Math
At Tutoring Excellence we embrace the challenges of Common Core, yet we still focus on the fundamental skills needed for students long term success. Starting with Elementary school standards, our students develop their computational and application skills so they can advance to word problems and more rigorous problem-solving. Tutoring Excellence meets your student at their academic level and develops their skills to be ready for more advanced mathematics.
Soon-To-Be-Reader
A strong start when learning to read is essential for a student’s long term academic success. Learning to read at Tutoring Excellence starts with the basics of reading skills from recognizing letters, to identifying sounds, to learning to read words. This is taught using a variety of reading activities; your child gets to see, hear, and touch, which engages them in the learning experience, along with our excellent tutors who motivate your soon-to-be-reader.
Reading
Tutoring Excellence provides specific practice in seven essential reading skills: Following Directions, Getting the Main Idea Detecting the Sequence, Getting the Facts, Drawing Conclusions, Inferences and Using the context.
Writing
At Tutoring Excellence we focus on the foundations of writing needed for any student to succeed in their academic journey. From a focus on grammar rules, spelling, punctuation, communicating with ones audience, development of reasoning skills, problem solving and observation skills.
Dyslexia
For students struggling with reading difficulties like dyslexia and letter recognition Tutoring Excellence offers one-on-one tutoring tailored to your child’s specific needs from kindergarten – 12th grade. We employ the Orton-Gillingham approach; a multisensory curriculum that utilizes the four learning pathways (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Tactile) often called “Structured Literacy”. Students meet 2 or more times per week with each session touching on fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, phonics, and phonemic awareness. Tutoring Excellence’s program is approved by the Colorado Department of Education and meets the National Institute of Health description of best practices for students with dyslexia.
